CENTRE OF APOKORONAS VILLAGE BUT TOTALLY PRIVATE
Price - €299,000 - (including furniture)
The
Location
Located in west of Crete, just two miles from the town of Vamos, a 15-minute
drive from the beaches of Georgioupolis and Almirida, and around forty minutes
from historic Chania Town, Chania airport and the port of Souda. The area suits
those looking for an attractive Crete village close to transport connections, a
selection of fine beaches and a good base for inland exploration the Apokoranos
Peninsular. There is plenty of traditional architecture and country
churches along with basic amenities and a modest selection of tavernas, many in
the village square.
The Property
The larger of the two houses was once an olive press on the ground floor and the
1st floor became a Turkish kaffenion. Many of the original features have been
retained during a lengthy sympathetic renovation. The shared courtyard is an
absolute delight being hidden from the road by high walls, offering security and
privacy. Both are beautify presented with exquisite fixtures and features. Top
photo right is a picture of the lovely courtyard.
House 1
Access
to the first floor is possible via an outside staircase which was once the
entrance to the kaffenion. Main entrance now is by an attractive courtyard gate
leading to the front door of this property. The accommodation consists of a very
large open plan lounge/kitchen/diner, the kitchen being separated by an
attractive Venetian arch forming a natural boundary to the kitchen area. A
working feature fireplace is a useful addition when it is chilly but not worth
switching on the oil fired central heating.
Under a further attractive arch [this time Cretan in design] is a W.C. and a
double bedroom.
The ceilings are wooden with beams and there is a simple solid staircase leading
to the first floor bedroom.
This bedroom is really huge with the original alcove where coffee was made when
it was once a kaffenion. The ceiling is vaulted and doors lead onto the large
terrace with lovely tidy village views. A further door leads to the outside
steps mentioned earlier. This bedroom also has an en suite bathroom with full
size bath.
From the large terrace steps lead down to the courtyard
The courtyard is laid to well developed shrubs and trees, offering shade during
the long hot summer days.
House 2
Access
from courtyard into large open plan lounge/kitchen/diner with two large arches
adding interest and separating the lounge area from a bedroom area. Two useful
storage cupboards are a definite asset. There is also a bathroom with full size
bath on this floor. Stairs lead to the first floor bedroom and en suite shower
room/W.C. A door from the bedroom opens onto the large terrace with views across
the village and to the White Mountains.
Both properties are heated by oil fired central heating and the 1st floor
bedrooms have the benefit of air conditioning. Each have separate metering.
There are water storage tanks in the courtyard to cover the eventuality of any
temporary water supply problems.
These two properties being sold together offer a rare opportunity to either let
one out as a source of revenue or to house additional family members.
