The Location


Arvi is a traditional fishing village on the south coast of Crete in the district of Heraklion, with a micro sub-tropical climate and a banana growing area. It has a large port/marina and long sandy beach. Several tavernas, shops and café’s, one small hotel, the Ariadni, and a few B&Bs.

At the back of the village is the famous Arvi gorge with resident Golden Eagles, Griffon Vultures and Eleonora’s Falcon. The beach area is a nesting site for the loggerhead turtles and a beach watch through June is bound to delight with nesting sights of these magnificent and increasingly rare amphibians. An ancient monastery is still occupied by friendly orthodox monks at the base of the gorge. Arvi is the ideal place for a boat owner away from the expensive tourist areas. Altogether a delightful rural south coast location.

Approximately 1.20 hr from the airport at Heraklion, the village has just about everything for modern living, but if you really must mega supermarket occasionally, Lidl is 45 minutes away. It is on the bus route connection to Heraklion and all towns and village in between
